I had a denominational church upbringing. I always believed in God but didn’t feel that God did anything today or was relevant.
In my final year at high school I met Penny who talked about the Holy Spirit. She spoke of God giving evidence at receiving the Holy Spirit , Speaking in tongues.  You hear that you have received the Holy Spirit.

I decided to investigate further. I got down on my knees and prayed out loud which I had never done before.  The next day I did receive the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues. I was baptized shortly afterwards by full immersion.
Having the Holy Spirit I now have a hope and a purpose of existence.

I was brought up in a home where God was a part of the family life. As a child I understood that God was always there to call on if I needed help.  The first thing we did if we weren’t well was to pray. 

With this sort of attitude, I received the Holy Spirit with the Bible evidence of “speaking in tongues”, a prayer language that God gave me. I was 8 yrs old when that happened. I was baptized the following week as the Bible commands.

The standards, directions and confidence that God gives me are a real comfort in these difficult times.

I grew up coming to church with my mother and came to an age where I wanted to have what my mother and others in the church had, the Holy Spirit.

I received the Holy Spirit in a house meeting while I was sitting behind a couch. I was 12 years old. At the time I had a very clear image of Jesus. I was baptized the following week in the church hall. I had a brush with Meningitis but the family and the church prayed for me. I experienced a very quick recovery and no lasting side effects.

God gives me stability and comfort, especially as I bring up my own children. It is wonderful to be able to pray for anything and know the Lord hears and answers.

Thirty-one years ago I was on a personal search for the reality of Jesus Christ. I really wanted to know him, but I also wanted Him to know me upon his prophesied return.

Fortunately some key people, including my father who had returned to the U.S.A. after World War 2, spoke to me about the need to receive the Holy Spirit, as described in the Bible, including speaking in tongues.   At first I had reservations but when I saw in Mark 16 that Jesus expected this of true believers, I knew that was fine by me.  I had the wonderful, revolutionary experience of receiving the Holy Spirit in 1974 on March the 6th.   God gave me His love, joy and peace and great reassurance.  I was duly baptized by immersion, according to the Bible pattern.

The Lord has meet every need through many years of raising 3 daughters, working in elderly care and music teaching, and in more recent years through incredibly stressful events which led to amazing resolutions. 

He has healed me physically and emotionally, bringing me out of severe pain, shock, and post-traumatic stress situations, including ‘shutdown’ experienced on 30th May, 2004.  Jesus Himself and my superb spiritual friends brought about a reversal of this situation.  I call the Gospel ‘the Truth that really works’.

About 30 years ago my mother received the Holy Spirit with the sign of speaking in tongues.  She told me about her experience. This made me want to know more about it.

I went to a meeting at the Melbourne Revival Centre and I was baptized that day feeling convicted by God’s Word.  Six weeks later I was also filled with God’s Holy Spirit.  My life became much easier. God replaced the sadness of my past life and gave me a future to look forward to.  Over the years God has met many needs and I have constantly seen many blessings bestowed on my children and myself.
